Urban Groundings
2018
This fashion design project draws its inspiration from the SS 19/20 trend prediction ‘Creative Manifesto’. It is a trend that celebrates creativity and expressiveness through pattern and texture as the public begin to experiment with new ways of expressing individuality through clothing. The project is named after a trend within the theme of ‘Creative Manifesto’ that mainly focuses on architectural elements. The inspiration for this project is specifically drawn from the local architecture of Manchester.
The colour palette is made up of a variety of grey tones with hints of green to mimic the charcoal artwork that complements this fashion collection. Through thorough trend and market research along with colour and surface development, several fashion designs were brought to life through sample testing and visualisations. As for the customer market, competitor analysis shows that the younger generation would be more likely to own casual streetwear garments that offer functionality and comfort, whilst also being fashionable. However, due to the versatility of the final collection, the designs could also overlap into older age groups as the designs themselves are not just limited to the youth.
The final collection is made up of a series of garments that merges embroidery and print techniques together. Through rigorous sample testing with sublimation dye and various embroidery techniques, the most suitable designs were drawn up to create new textures that are entirely different to mainstream printing techniques.
