Exploration of Conscious Spontaneity

2019

This project focuses on bringing a serendipitous, playful aspect to hand embroidery whilst also maintaining a sense of calculated and reflective choices through rational thinking paired with risk-taking. Embroidery details of this project are not only extremely detailed and controlled but also convey a refreshing twist to accustomed hand stitch techniques through high craftsmanship and a passion for embroidery.

With the incorporation of laser-cut embellishments, fabric manipulation, beads and various threads, a vibrant quirkiness is portrayed through experimentations of colour, scale and stitch compositions. This project draws its inspiration from a collection of paintings based on hand-made artefacts and still-life arrangements that explore the combination of serendipity, spontaneity and expressive brush strokes in addition to vigorous, blunt technicalities.
