Final Piece 1

Beautiful Chaos: Final Collection

The first piece of the final collection consists of a 3-metre length of black cotton fabric with the purpose of being developed into an alternative Watteau wedding dress train. Designed for longevity, the high-quality cotton embroidered piece can also be reformed into an interior piece or a dress/skirt detail after its initial use.

To create this piece, a combination of hand stitch styles was used to produce a minimalist piece that focuses on the elegance and gracefulness of hand embroidery. Inspired by the dark aesthetics of the AW21/22 Phantasmagoria trend, a unique approach to expressivity was taken in the form of using embroidery details to signify sophistication and personality as opposed to the overwhelming use of colour.

This final piece is a culmination of the designer’s own embroidery style developed throughout the final year, concluding in a perfected execution of a repetitive hand stitch. Influenced by the shape and flow of a dragon which is a prominent component of Chinese traditions and the designer’s own culture. The mythical creature is a symbol of power, divinity and prosperity which were elements that were carefully considered during the creation of this final piece that perfectly embodies the characteristics of the designer’s identity.
